I am trying to track a Johannes Jansson, born 19 Jun 1825 in Hova.  I found a household record (1819-1845) with a notation to the right which I can't read.  I'm not sure it is a parish name as I couldn't find any in Hova that looked similar.  But the notation indicates that some event happened in 1851 I think.  I am attaching the household record and notation.  Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry.  The name should be Johannes Johansson.

Could this be an illness?

It looks to be about smallpox vaccination; the text is

Citera
ej/utslag/vacc 51

translated

Citera
not/pockmarks/vacc 51

and there are several others that have the same "not vacc" notation. Maybe there was a campaign to catch the un-vaccinated, and make sure they got the vaccine at the time, with the aid of the church?

Thanks, Staffan.

I wonder if the word that looks like "sarbslag" means that he caught some illness in 1851.  I looked at death records for that year and did not find his name.  i bought a Swedish-English dictionary, and the closest I can come to any meaning is that slag might mean he had a stroke??

The word is "utslag"1 -- a rash, I guess. I interpreted in the smallpox vaccination context, to pockmarks, which rather would have been "koppor". So I'm by no means certain of the interpretation ...

It looks like Johannes survives until 1892-01-292, 3, when he dies in Hova, with no note of what ...

Staffan,
Thank you so much for all the information.  I found all the records you referenced.  Good work!  This would be my great-granduncle on my paternal side.  My mother was born in Sweden, so I have many more Swedes in my family tree than Americans.  Carol
