Dear all,

following up on my previous post https://forum.rotter.se/index.php?topic=178626.0. I managed to dig up that my grandfather was employed by one Helge Gustavsson in Stockholm during the WW2 time.

I tried to contact skatteverket who advised that population register up to 1991 was done by church. These records are kept by national archive https://riksarkivet.se/startpage. I've tried to look, but there are too many records to go through.

My question is, how do I narrow it down? I have the address, but I cannot pair it with a parish.

Please advise.

Zbynek

If you have the address in Stockholm, finding the relevant parish should be easy. Just post the address here. Also, if you have an address where your grandfather stayed, it should be possble to find him in the records.

The address I have is:

Burgarengatan 10, Stockholm

I believe it is misspelled, as it was written down by my grandfather (an old man) in 1991.

So, the closest one I could find here https://geographic.org/streetview/sweden/stockholm/stockholm/stockholm.html is Borgargatan in Stockholm.

But of course, I might be wrong. Or there is a possibility that the street was renamed.

You're right, Borgargatan is the most likely (even the only possible) interpretation. That's in Högalid parish. Unfortunately not all parish records are digitized and from looking at the archival information it seems as if the main registry it's still under the Swedish 70 years embargo for integrity reasons (probably because the volumes cover the period after 1950).

Maybe some forum member with access to "Sveriges Befolkning 1940" can find Helge Gustavsson. That record is behind a paywall (part of ArkivDigital) and I don't hold a subscription.

Should be Erhard Helge Gustavsson then, born 15 nov 1914 in Dunker parish. He lived with hes family in the "Bulten 16" city block, which seem to be where Borgargatan 10 is. He moved to Älvsjö in 1945 though.

Hi Kalle,

wow, this is beyond any expectations I previously had. Any chance same search can be repeated in Älvsjö? It seems to be Stockholm suburb these days...

Well, in Älvsjö he lived at Gullriststigen 4. But when he died 18 sep 1978 he lived in Frejgatan 28 in Märsta, which is a bit further out

And by the way, he had three children. They might still be alive though, so I can't write their names in the forum

Can you PM their names and/or help me in tracing them as well?
