Any assistance is appreciated! Thank you

Anna Carolina BERGSTRÖM was born 17 Jan 1854 Berg 1, Boställe, Västerfärnebo, Västmanlands län, Sweden. She was born illegitimate with no father listed. I have traced Anna Carolina BERGSTRÖM and her mother Stina Lisa BERGSTRÖM through all the Swedish records but there is no reference to the father. (I have all online records for Anna from birth to moving to America. I have all online records for Stina Lisa from birth to death)

I am now trying to locate the court records for the payment of Stina Lisa's fine on 12 Feb 1854. Because the father is usually fined with the mother I was hoping to also locate Anna's father assuming his payment of a fine was also during this time period Jan/Feb 1854. The härad (court district) is Vagnsbro but that year is currently not available online/digitized.

Her birth record is attached and translated below:

Västerfärnebo, Västmanlands län, Sweden
1854 No 4
Anna Carolina Bergström
Jan. 17 (born)
Jan. 17 (baptised)
The mother: female farm worker Stina Lisa Bergström at Berg Boställe 28 years old.
Baptism witnesses: The widow Stina Andersdotter at Berg properties; the farmer's daughter Anna Jansdotter in Berg; the farmhand Jan Andersson in Åhlsvarta
Circumstance: Absolsier och erlagt plikten 12/2/1854 (Absolved and paid the fine 12th Feb 1854)

At this point in time it was no longer forbidden by the common law to have children out of wedlock. She still had to pay a fine to the church though, so you need to check the church accounting. Those books do not seem to be digitalized either, unfortunately. But she did not have to reveal who the father was anyway, so he probably wasn't fined. In some cases there was a court case where the father was sued for not paying child support but that is also pretty rare. Finding an unknown father in this period can be very hard.

Thank you.

Just a few questions...are these the correct church accounting journals?
Of these volumes which would contain
Stina Lisa Bergström's fine paid 12 Feb 1854 (and posssibly the father's fine if paid during the pregnancy)?
Do you know if there is any place other than the National Archives that has this documentation?

Some of it is available thru the pay service at Arkiv Digital but otherwise yes, you will have to visit the Archives. In the 1800s there was so much bureaucracy and paperwork that it's hard to digitalize it all.

It was never a crime to give birth -- the birth was just evidence, of the criminal act that made it ...
