Hello, I am looking for more information on my Swedish ancestors through my great-grandmother, born Alfrida Berta (or maybe Elisa Berta Alfrida) Nilsson (changed to Alfreda Bertha Nelson in the USA), born 11 Apr 1892 (or 1891?) in Stockholm, died in Lake Placid, New York, USA on 27 Aug 1928. Her parents were Mårten Nilsson (Martin Nelson), born 12 Oct 1846 (or Oct 1849?) in Vanstad, Skåne län, and died 9 Aug 1920 in Dorchester (Boston), Massachusetts, USA; and Elisa B Djupman (married name Elise B Nelson), born 18 Feb 1855 in Kila (there are several places in Sweden with this name, I believe - not sure which one), and died 18 Feb 1855 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, USA.
Mårten and Elisa were married around 1879, and had 3 children: Karl M Nilsson (Carl M Nelson), born September 1882 and died in Dorchester, Massachusetts, USA sometime after 1930; Alvina Nilsson (Alvina Nelson, later Evelyn A Nelson, married name Evelyn A Driscoll), born 30 Apr 1889 (or 1890?) and died 21 Nov 1972 in Centerville, Massachusetts, USA; and then my great-grandmother, Alfrida (Alfreda). I don't know where in Sweden the other two children were born, or where the marriage took place. Mårten's parents were Nils Nilsson, born 3 Apr 1814 in Röddinge, Malmöhus län; and Hanna Larsdotter, born 15 Jun 1815 also in Röddinge. I don't know anything more about the Djupmans.
Elisa (Djupman) Nilsson left Sweden, along with her 3 children, from the port of Göteborg, arriving in Boston on 11 Oct 1895. I can't find any record of Mårten's departure or arrival, but in later documents he lists his immigration year as 1898. Family lore says that at least some of the family may have returned to Sweden at some point before returning to the US. Great-grandmother Alfreda Nelson married “Harry” Harold John Canniff and they became my grandfather's parents; his name was Nelson Joseph Canniff.
If anyone can help me uncover more information about either side of the family, including Elisa's parents, and Mårten and Elisa's siblings and possible descendants, please contact me. Thank you very much!!
