Hello Jean,
I see a little light come up on the horizon -
Hetrina IV - has 3 soldiers named LUTTER.
A Johannes, a Nikolaus, and a Paulus,
all three came from Schmalkalden, and all three served with the
Hessen-Kassel Regt. von Seitz, 4. Company.
Johannes is listed as having died March 1776 (probably still in
Germany, or on board ship)
Nikolaus and Paulus are still on the Regiment's Muster Roll in 1783.
At that time the Regiment was stationed at Halifax, Nova Scotia.
I really don't know what to make of this, but hope it may help you.
Cheers,
John

A German Genealogist, Gunter Luther, in the 1980's wrote to many Amer Luther
familys in preparation for a book. Published in 1987 , '' Das Luther -
Nachkommenbuch'' Gunter has since died.
In a letter of correspondence that I have found in a cousins SAR file he
wrote in 1986;
''I now have three Luther brothers enlisting in 1777 to ''Hessische Truppen''
for the independance war at Schmalkalden near Erfurt
Thery are;
Paulas Luther b 1748
Johannes Luther b 1750
Nicolaus Luther b 1758
I believe Johannes b 1750 may be my missing ''Conrad'' He named his 2nd son
John b 1790- d 1791, then named another son John b 1800, my GGgf John Luther
1800-1862.
any thoughts on a troop , a man from Schmalkalden would have been assigned ?
