Johannes Robert CARLSON, born 7 Jan 1888, Holmsja, Husgohl, Sweden (according to declaration of intention to become U. S. citizen), died 6 Jul 1952, Proctor, Minnesota, USA.  He came to the U. S. 24 Sept 1909 on the Lusitania, which sailed from Liverpool.

I have a Swedish document that says: Utdrag av Fodelse - och Dopbok.  1. Foraldrarnas kyrkobokforingsort Lillhovda forsamling i Blekinge lan.  9. Foraldrarnas bostad i sistnamnda forsamling Hojemala.  Foraldrarna vigda den 27 augusti 1886. 10. Barnet dopt den 12 mars 1888 av A. Pihlstrand, 11. Faddrar Bondeanka Ingelof Petersdotter i Hojemala 12. och drang Johan Johansson. 13. Modern icke kyrkotagen 14. betygar Lillhovda forsamling i Blekinge lan 15. 3 october ar 1947.  Signed by N. A. Nilsson, Kyrkoherde v. t. f. Komminister Kyrkoadjunkt.

I would like some help translating this document.  I think I understand the gist of it, but I would like a literal translation.

Also, I would like any information about Johannes CARLSON's family, including his parents and siblings.  He did not disclose much about his family, but my mother said she thought he had at least one sister.  It appears that he came to the U. S. alone, and that the rest of his family stayed in Sweden.  He was age 24 when he left Sweden.  He was my grandfather.

Thank you for any help.

Hej Lisa.

As Elisabet says the correct name of the parish is Sillhövda, not Lillhövda and the name of the place within the parish is Höjemöla. It's located in northern part of Blekinge. If you are interested you can find a map on line at:
http://seeker.lmv.lm.se/kartexweb/kartsok_eng/
Just search for Ledja (Höjemåla might be a little difficult to type on an English keyboard) and you will find Höjemåla west of Ledja on the map.

The Demographic Database for Southern Sweden, searchable on line:
http://www.ddss.nu/engddss/default.asp
gives information about a brother of Johannes Robert as well. His name was Gustaf Albin Karlsson and he was born in Höjemåla in Sillhövda parish 20 Semptember 1891 and passed away 30 June 1964 in Sillhövda parish. He was married and had two sons.

I will send you a mail with more detailed information about Gustaf Albin and his family.

You will find more information about Sillhövda and Blekinge at:
http://genealogi.se/blekinge/
That site will be updated in a couple of days.

Regards from Blekinge - Christian

Modern icke kyrkotagen - means that the mother did not took part in the church's traditional blessing/thanksgiving ceremony after the birth. This special kind of ceremony became more and more unusual at that time.

Hi Lisa.

Where did you go? No replay to all the information we brought you? I tried to send you an e-mail with additional information but it was returned back to me. Obviously there is something wrong with your email-address. Give me a mail!

Thank you all so much for your help!  I had a hard time finding my way back here--I forgot to bookmark the page--but when I did, I had all this great information.  I really appreciate your help.

Christian, I don't know why you had trouble with my e-mail address--I checked it here, and I entered it correctly (sometimes my fingers hit the wrong keys, but this time I got it right!).  Maybe try my alternate e-mail at lhightow@yahoo.com (LHIGHTOW@YAHOO.COM).

I am going to make a diagram of this information, and then I may reply more.  Thank you all again very much.  I will try to reply directly to each of you.

Lisa
