I've got two old letters from America (written in Swedish) in my possession. I know that they are written by relatives to my ancestors and myself.

The first one is written in March,1st, 1897 by Carl Sjöberg. His address was 1503 Red River St, Austin, Texas. The letter is written to farbror Anders (uncle Anders). Carl tells that he is married and that he's got five children. The oldest is a son that is married. His mother is alive, but his father is dead. He also writes about Anna and Bjorkman (they've got five children), Clas and Johanna (three children, the oldest girl married), Sofi (widow with seven children), Christin and Carl Sanberg (six children).

The second letter is written in February,14th, 1898 by John Arvidsson. His address was De Lamar, Owyhee County, Idaho. The letter is written to Jonas Sjöstrand. John is telling about his mother and father. He also writes about Andriett who's married and got two little girls.

I do hope that someone will recognise these people and that someone might tell me more about them.

Best wishes,
       Nilla

Hi Pernilla!

Maybe I have got something for you! In my research for descendants of Sven Svensson Rydh, Barkeryd, Jönköpings län, I have found two brothers Sponberg, who emigrated to Texas. One of them (Anders or Andrew) married a Mathilda Sjöberg. Her father was Anders J. Sjöberg (1827-1903), born in Träslända, Nässjö, Jönköpings län. He married Britta Helena Peterson (1830-1894). Both are buried in Manor Cemetary (Texas). In their marriage were born Anna Marie 1853, Christine 1854, Mathilda 1858, Ida 1862, John Oscar 1864 and Emma 1863. All were born in Sweden and came to America in 1871 going first to Paxton, Illinois and in 1874 moved to Manor, Texas.

All this is second hand information and might not have any connection with your letter. On the other hhand, this might be your 'uncle Anders'. Manor is not very far from Austin. I have more information about the families of the children if you are interrested. If you come across any Sponberg or Spånberg in Texas, please let me know.

If you can find a copy of a book with the name 'Svenskarna i Texas i ord och bild' you might get some more information. It holds information about all? the swedish immigrants living in Texas around 1910-1915. There also exists an english translation. 'Swedes in Texas...???'

Good luck
Mats

Lived at Delvalle, Austin, Travis county, Texas, U.S. Dead 1916-07-27 (Svenskarna i Texas). Carl and Elisa Katarina had six children : John, born in 1871, Gustaf, born in 1873, Hannah, born in 1880 and married Mrs Martin, Joseph, born in 1883, Anna and Augusta.
