I am now very confused.I have Anna Andersdotter born 1695 in Bjorkhyttan,Lindesberg,Örebro. Brent Ericson's website has her parents as Anders Lomans and Kerstin Andersdotter. No place of birth or dates given. The Family History search has her parents as Anders Hansson and Kirstin Andersdotter
with a marraige date of 22 10 1693 in Millesvik,Varmland. The Pedigree resource File has
an Anders Hansen Lohmann born in Denmark and married to Catherine Kirstine Kjeldsgaard.
I could not find the name Lomans in the HFL and
according to the FHL the name Lomans does not appear anywhere in Sweden.I don't know where else to look. Can anyone help?
  Thank you

In the Swedish phone book
 http://privatpersoner.eniro.se/?click_id=gsi_to_privatpersoner
you can find:
138 Loman
1 Lomans
0 Lohmans
127 Lohman
17 Lohmann
(And also some Lomander, Lohmander, etc.)

So Lohman etc. is clearly a family name in use in Sweden.

Nancy and Bo,
I rekognize the surname (soldier name??) from the reconstruction we've done on the church records from Boda Chapelry Parish north of Rättvik.

This is what I find for a start:
Lenåsen F19 - G23
IIb)
Loman Jon Olsson, f 1724-01-15, g 1746 m
Malin Jonsdotter, f 1726-02-22 av Jon Andersson, Östbjörka

Brita Andersdotter, moder, f 1712. Ej identifierad.

You can find more information on my website:

Good Luck!
Karin

The name Loman (farmname/soldiername ?) was used (and still is) in the village Bergkarlås in Mora parish.

Are these names in Lindesberg parish? If I looked in the General Monsterrulla where would I best find the names? I have several ancestors with soldier names, but I didn't realize Loman was one.

Most of my male ancestors are blacksmiths and these families mostly married each other. My fathers fathers fathers mothers fathers sister Maria married a blacksmith named Anders Loman born 1744. Patronymikon (not used) Jonasson. They lived in Värmland.
They got married 1766 in Fryksände parish and Anders was then blacksmith at Vägsjöfors bruk. They later moved to Oleby bruk also in Fryksände.
Maria died in 1782 and the family at that time lived at Rexed bruk. Gunnarskog.

Anders father was Jonas Loman born 1714. Died 21 february 1773 at Oleby bruk, Fryksände, 59 years of age.

Jonas father was Johan Hansson Loman born 1677. Died 1734 in Stavsnäs, Värmland. 80 years old.
In 1709 Johan buys a farmhouse, Stensgård, in Fryksände. (From Fryksdals Härads Domböcker 1701-1725). Mentioned in Fryks.H.D. 1731, last time.

Johans father was Hans Andersson Loman born at Lindås, Södermanland. Mentioned in Frykdals H.D. in 1711 and 1712. He then worked at Oleby bruk, as did his son Johan above.
Wife 1 name Kierstin (Kjerstin, Kerstin)
wife 2 name Margreta (Margeta, Margareta)

All men above were blacksmiths. And the name is Loman without the ending -s. Sometimes there can be Lohman, but the extra -h- means nothing.

All information given here has to be considered as loose ends. I can not guarentee any thruth,  I have not checked anything as the Lomans are not my first priority.

Johannes, Johan, Hans are the same name, only different forms. Anders and Johan seem to be names in every generation of the Loman family.

If you have a Swedish map you can see that there is not far from Södermanlands län through Örebro län to Värmlands län.

So, good luck!

Elaine,
I think this is going to take a bit of searching
and re-searching. I think I had best go through the HFL again, more closely,to get the correct spelling of his name. Thanks for th input

There is a well known family in Denmark called Lohmann. among other things with a tradition within the theatre. I am not sure if it is a originaly german name? The most danish names ending with ---mann, has a German origin back in time, some are also originaly jewish. I do not know if Lohmann is jewish though. I have a friend, a well known actor, with that surname and there are 3 other colleagues with that surname in Denmark (source: Dansk skuespiller forbunds medlemsliste).
Please, try www.anetavlen.dk if you are interested in finding som Danish Lohmann/Lohman ancestors, or maybe even still living relatives.

Sincerely yours: Steve
