Fern Marie Hess of Rifle died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Crossroads Assisted Living in Rifle. She was 80.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. today, Dec. 9, at the Rifle Funeral Home, 1400 Access Road in Rifle.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Church of the Open Door, 1420 Access Road in Rifle, with the Rev. Del Whittington officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in New Castle.
She was born Fern Marie Benedict on Feb. 14, 1923, in Hudson, to Freda Linforce and C.B. Benedict. She spent her childhood in Colorado.
She married Alfred Hess on April 1, 1952, in Silt. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hess worked as a rancher, and lived in Rifle for most of her life.
She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Silt.
Mrs. Hess was an excellent cook, made beautiful quilts and volunteered for Lift-Up. She loved the outdoors, and she loved her Lord and was eager to be with him.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by five brothers, four sisters and by a stepson, Jim Hess.
Mrs. Hess is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Blanche Carter of Dolan Springs, Ariz.; by a daughter, Marie Davis of Lancaster, Calif.; by a sister, Lila Martin of Millikin; by eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; by a dear friend Nita Bottorff; and by her cat, Kitty.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lift-Up or a charity of choice.
