My ancestor's death record seems to indicate that he was a privious farm owner. I would like to know if the death record and household record indicate that he actually owned the farm. His name was Jöns Tufvesson, he died 28, March, 1868; Gumlösa, Kristianstad. My Swedish dictionary says that f. d. åbo undtm means previous farm owner receiving support from current owner.

Death Record No. 3, [Kristianstad] Sörby F:1 (1862-1885) Image 20 / page 17 (AID: v101402.b20.s17, NAD: SE/LLA/13399} Gumlösa deaths are with Sörby.

Household Record.[Kristianstad] Gumlösa AI:6 (1861-1868) Image 67 / page 59 (AID: v99370.b67.s59, NAD: SE/LLA/13122)

Thanks

Kyla,
I don't quite agree with your dictionary. Åbo does not mean owner but tenant.

Thanks,
I am still wondering about what the abreviations f.d and undtm mean. The death record gives f.d. åbo undtm. Does it mean former tenant receiving support from current tenant? Would the tenant be a leaseholder?

Thanks
Kyla

f.d. means före detta, which translates as former

undt.m. means undantagsman, which is a person who for some reason gets his keep from the people on the main farm. He could be somebody's parent, or he could be a former tenant, for instance.

An åbo was a tenant, and did not own the farm, but he had a stronger right to continue as the tenant, if he behaved and paid taxes and dues as he should. One of his children could also inherit the tenantcy, if all had been well in the previous generation.
