Sten Hjalmar Bernhard Markman

I am searching for the birth certificate of Sten Markman. He was born April 9, 1898 in Stockholm Sweden. He died March 14, 1966 in Los Angeles, California. He is my paternal grandfather.

I looked into the Emigrant CD but I did not find Sten there. Do you know when he came to USA? Did he go by himself or with his family?
 
I also looked into the deathCD for Sweden during the year 1950-1999, we can search for names after 1970. I search for Markman and I found only 13 people. There is 3 persons that is born in Stockholm and Engelbrekt parish, maybe they are some relativs.
 
Markman, Bo Johan born 16.10.1908 died 16.4.1985. He was married 4.6.1938
 
Markman, Kiddi Cecilia born 4.4.1907 died 7.1.1996. She was unmarried
 
Markman, Ylfva Maria born 10.7.1912 died 12.10.1991. She was unmarried
 
You can contact Stockholm City Archives at this email stadsarkivet@ssa.stockholm.se maybe they can check if your Sten is born in Engelbrekt parish. They could also check the register of population how many Markmans there is living in Stockholm and where.

Gillis L Markman left Sweden 6.6.1922 he was 21 years old, lived in Stockholm and was an engineer.
 
Now I found Sten but his last name was Makman on the CD. He was 26 years old, a bookkeeper and came from county A wich is Stockholm.

At the CD for Klara, a part of Stockholm, there is a Karl Adolf Markman born 21.12.1859 in Malmö, Malmöhus län.
 
Markman seems to bee a unusually lastname. So maybe it could be him.

I looked into the site for southern part of Sweden were Malmös birthbooks are accessible http://www.ddss.nu/ /databaser/Födelseregister Malmö Kommun/Födelseböcker at Faderns (fathers) efternamn (last name) you write Markman and pressure sök (search)
 
There you will find Karl Adolfs birth and all his sibblings.

Learned from Ellis Island records that at immigration Sten declared place of birth as Gävle, Sweden

Sten Hjalmar Bernhard Markman was not born in Stockholm April 9, 1898, but in the city of Gävle,
the county of Gävleborg. The family moved to the parisch of Adolf Fredrik, Stockholm,from Gävle November 11, 1905.
 
A reqeust was sent to the Regional Archives of Härnösand, where the church records of Gävle  
are to be found.

According to the record of birth and christening of Gävle parish, FDB 1898:204, Sten Hjalmar Bernhard was born on April 9, 1898, as son of the engineer Karl Adolf Markman, born on December 20, 1859 in the parish of St Petri, county of Malmöhus, and his wife Tullia Vilhelmina Hilma Kordelia Sjöstand, born on December 15, 1862, in the parish of Jönköping. The parents got married on January 21, 1888.

Then it was the right Karl I found on the CD. He came to Stockholm 28.11.1878 as a student and lived at Klara Norra Kyrkogata 12 to 12.3.1880 when he moved to another part of Stockholm, Kungsholmsroten.
