If there is someone who has access to Genline, there is an immigration record I would like to have translated.  I am trying to locate Inger Christina Svensdotter's birth place and so far have had no luck.  All information will be deeply appreciated.  The Genline ID number is:  1844.7.89000. Thank you.

I have a Swedish death document that I would like the first sentence translated, please.  Since I do not know the Swedish language, I am guessing at some of the letters, but hope that someone will realize any errors and correct them.  The document starts:

Minnef, Efter Uflidna Enfan!
Inger Kristina Svens, Dotter
Fodd, 1818, den 11 September.  Dod den 5 April 1893, 74 ar. 7m.  Sörjd af bara barn, same Barnabarn , Med flera befanfa, och slagfingar. (end)(there continues more writing, which appears to reference bible passages.)

The document appears to be hand painted and hand written, with an assortment of flowers and leaves in a ring around the writing.  I have been searching for any clues as to where this woman may have died, and wonder if the above passage may tell me.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I recently downloaded a marriage record from Genline, but cannot decipher the farm (or parish) where the parents were from, and this is preventing me from going any further on this line.  Alas, my subscription to Genline has run out, so I cannot go back and review, but am hoping someone with a subscription can look at this entry and tell me what is says.

The entry is in Varola parish, Skaraborg län, and page number is 1601.9.61900.  It is marriage #6 for Carl Beckius and Stina Larsdotter.  Her parents, Lars Persson and Katrina Andersdotter are from where?

Your assistance is deeply appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

Is there someone with a Genline subscription that can help with translating a notation on a Swedish census?  GID 1844.2.18100 (Sällstorp) has notations in both the first and last columns for Christina Svensdotter and her two children.  I am trying to discover who her parents were, and feel this may be a clue.  No clerical survey I have checked has her birth parish listed. There is a moving certificate to Sällstorp(GID 1844.7.89000) that states she was born in Ahs, but I've checked, and it is not there.  Does this moving certificate tell where she was moving from?  I also checked parishes of Sällstorp and  Värö, and she is not listed in birth records there either.  If anyone has any suggestions as to how to find her parents' names I would be grateful.  Thank you.

Does anyone know where this is?  Is it the name of a farm?  I have a postcard that has E. Arvickson, Frän Hemmett on it.  So far, have not been able to locate E. Arvickson's birth place, and wonder if this may be a clue.  Also, do have a picture that is supposedly her and her mother taken at Varberg, so possibly Hemmett may be a place around there.  Immigrated in 1881, but returned sometime around 1890's to visit her mother.  Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks for any clues you might give.

I am looking for the parents of Anna Stina Jonsdotter or Jansdotter, who was born 13 January 1855 in Segerstad, Karlstad, Varmland, Sweden, according to her marriage record from Frojered, Skaraborg.

Also, can anyone tell me when she died?  Last known place of residence was in Baltak, Skaraborg, Sweden in 1890.  Her husband, Gustaf Ekstrom immigrated to America in 1896, and two sons, David and Arvid, immigrated in 1902.  Gustaf remarried in September of 1902.  Was Anna Stina deceased by then?

Any information is appreciated.  Thank you!

My ancestor, Evelina Christina Johansson, b. 1862 in Sällstorp, Halland, Sweden, immigrated to the US in 1881.  Her birth record shows only her mother's name as Inger Christina Svensdotter, no father's name.  However, Inger did marry in 1871 in Värö, where she was living at the time, to a man named Olaf Johansson, died 2 April 1886.  He was married first to Johanna Jonsdotter, who died in 1845.  He is presumed to be the father of several of Inger's children.  My question is, would he possibly have left a will, and would it mention his illegitimate children?  How would I go about finding this information out?  Would there be court records, and how would I access them?
Thank you.

I am looking for the clerical surveys for Gustaf Alexander Ekström, who, according to Agnetorp parish clerical surveys in 1893, was born in Hjo parish on December 16, 1855.  My question is:  I have looked on the Mormon library's site and notice there are two different rolls for Hjo parish - one for the rural parish and one for the city.  How do I know which one to look in?  I believe Gustaf is a brother to my ancestor, who went by the name of Frank Arvickson (Arvidsson) who was born in 1864.  Frank immigrated about 1881, and Gustaf in 1896.  Any information or assistance would be appreciated.

On a marriage for Sven Jonasson and Inger Bengtsdotter in Strävalla on 8 July 1810, it lists Sven's parents as Jons Holmberg and Martha Larsdotter.  It also lists his residence as Syllinge, Veddige in Halland.  I would like to know if anyone can find these parents in the HFL for Veddige.  I think that Holmberg is possibly a soldier name, because I can't find any marriage for a Martha Larsdotter and Jons Holmberg in the Marriage database for Halland.  Is there some kind soul out there who can help?  Thank you in advance.

Yvonne,

Just found your reply today.  This is the family I am trying to research.  I am trying to find Sven Jonasson's parents.  Sven and Inger's marriage at Stravalla in 1810 lists his parents as Jonas Holmberg and Marta Larsdoter living at Syllinge in Veddige parish.  However, no one has been able to verify this.  I can't find his death record listing to see if parents are listed (I think he died in Varo)and HFL records report he was born in Ahs, but HFL records do not give an exact date of birth, and searching the birth records of Ahs produced no possible records (that is, assuming his father's name was Jonas and mother was Marta).  Is there any way I can find his birth/parents and continue my line?  Any suggestions?  Unfortunately, I my subscription to Genline records has expired.

Bo,

Does either Yttra Syllinge or Ostra Syllinge have a Jonas Holmberg living there?  I thought maybe Joh. Nilsson may have been him, but he was too young.  I am looking for information on Sven Jonasson's parents.  His marriage at Stravalla in 1810 states his parents were Jonas Holmberg and Marta Larsdoter, living at Syllinge in Veddige parish.  Since Sven was born about 1781, this Joh. Nilsson and Marta Larsdoter are not his parents.  Any further help would be appreciated.

Could SKS look at the HFL for Veddige, Halland for the period around 1807-1808?  I am looking for a Johannes Nilsson who married Marta Larsdoter on Dec 19, 1807.  I am interested in finding out if Johannes had any children listed from a possible prior marriage.  His address when he got married was at Skraddaren in Veddige.  The marriage does not list an address for her, but could possibly have been Syllinge.  Also, he may have gone by the last name of Holmberg.

I don't think Sven Johansson was born in Gunnarsjo parish, but moved there after he was married.  And, I apologize, HFLs showed he was born in 1781, not 1881, as I had previously stated.  His marriage record (at Stravalla, Genline ID 1842.15.63500) lists him as coming from Syllinge(farm) in Veddige parish, and lists his parents as Jons Holmberg and Martha Larsdoter.  Immigration records (Inflytting) show a Sven Jonson born in Ahs parish in 1777 (GID 1867.10.67500)but I cannot find a birth record there (checked 1775-1785)other than one in 1779 (GID 1867.5.85400)where the child's name is Sven Jonsson but mother and father's name is not what was on his marriage record.  In fact, it is difficult to read what their first names are, I can make out that the last names are Jonasson and Andersdotter.

Again, any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Lena,

First of all, thank you for responding so quickly.  We appreciate the help.
I have a hand-painted, hand written paper (somewhat like a German fraktur) which states that Inger Kristina Svensdotter was born on 11 September 1818 and died 5 April 1893, 74 years, 7 mos.  It appears to be a death record written in Swedish, with a coffin at the bottom.  It also give reference to bible passages, but does not appear to reference any town or parish.  This was sent to my grandmother, Evalina Kristina Johnson Arvickson here in the US from K. Brandqvist of Karl Gustaf G. 45, Goteborg, Sweden sometime in the early 1900's.  Postmark is not legible.  Also, there is a picture of my grandmother, with her mother (possibly Inger) and a small child.  It was taken at Mathilda Ranch in Varberg, date unknown.  But Evalina looks to be about 30 years old.  There is a possibility that K. Brandqvist from Goteborg may be a sister to Evalina, or at least a close relative, since Evalina immigrated about 1879-1881. She did not marry until after her immigration to the USA.

If you have any suggestions on how to find this family, we would certainly appreciate the advice.  Thank you again.

Looking for information on Gustaf Alexander Ekstrom, born December 16, 1855, immigrated from Baltak, Skaraborgs, Sweden, in 1896.  Destination, traveling companions, etc.  Any information on his immigration would be appreciated.

42
Is there some kind soul that can check the emigrant CD (or Emibas) for Evelina Christina Olofsdotter, from Värö, Hallands län in 1881?  I finally found where she left and am hoping this is the name she left under.  I think the specific date she left was Nov. 16.

Any information is appreciated.  Thank you.

43
Could someone please check the Emigrant CD for Evalina Kristina Bartoldsson or Evalina Kristina Torstensson (or -dotter) leaving Sweden in 1879?  Previous attempts to find her under Evalina Kristina Johnson (the name she went by in America) were unsuccessful.  She possibly could have been from the Hallands region, around Varberg or Rolfstorp area.  She was born about 1860 or 1861, so should have been around 18 or 19 years of age.  Thank you.

44
Tomas and Anne,

Thank you both for the lookups.  The F. O. Ekstrom you found is probably Frans, who had just turned 17 on Nov 2, 1881.  And Gustaf Alexander was 10 years older, but the last residence I show him at was Agnetorp.  Again, thank you.

45
I would like to know if there is a Frans Oskar Anderson listed in the Emigrant CD coming over to America in October or November 1881.  He was born 2 Nov. 1864 in Hjo parish in Skaraborg.  His father was Anders Gustaf Karlsson, mother was Gustafva Fredrika Andersdotter.  Other children also went by the names of Ekstrom, Gustafsson, and Karlsson, so he may have been listed under one of these.  A brother Gustaf Alexander Ekstrom came about the same time - I already have his information- but wonder if Frans Oskar came over with him, or on another trip.  Census records show him as immigrating in 1881, but I have been unsuccessful so far in finding him on any ships' lists.

Thank you for any information you can provide.

46
I don't think the above Christina is the correct one, but I would like to know if someone can look up an alternate name in the Emigrant CD for 1879.  I am wondering if Evalina Kristina Johnson (her name here in America) may have used either Evalina Kristina Bartoldsson or Torstensson (or -dotter) in 1879.  She would have come from the Varberg region, possibly Rolfstorp.

Again, thank you for any information you may provide.

47
Can someone tell me please if the Emigrant CD has an Evalina Kristina Johnson (or Jonsdotter) leaving Sweden in 1879?  Possible counties are Halland or Goteborg och Bohus.  Thank you for any information.

First of all, thank you Kerstin Carlborg, your information was the correct family.  However, I am still working on this problem.  I did find Gustaf Alexander Ekstrom in the clerical surveys for Hjo stad. at Ekeskogen (farm) and found that he did have a brother Frans Oskar, born 2 November 1864, whom I believe is my direct ancestor.  The problem is that the clerical survey records I can access go only up to 1876.  I did get clerical survey records for 1889-1899, but by then Frans Oskar had immigrated, and his family, with the exception of his sister Anna Sofia, were gone.  (US Census says that he came November 1881.) Utflytting records show a Frans Oskar Anderson moving out of Hjo stad Oct. 28, 1881 and going to Varsas, but not immigrating to America.  His father was Anders Gustaf Karlsson, mother Gustafva Fredrika Andersdotter, and I have found his children using various last names (Andersson, Gustafsson, Ekstrom).  I did sign up for Genline, and found a wealth of information regarding my Swedish relatives, but am stuck on this family.  Is there anyone with access to Hjo stad clerical surveys between 1876 and 1889, that can look up Ekeskogen and see what happened to the family, and specifically to Frans Oskar.  I have had no luck in finding his emigration records, and what name he went by on his emigration to America. The records show that he went by the last name of Arvicksson in the US. Any information would be deeply appreciated.
